The event was organised as part of Business of the Community’s Environment “action” Day. The Henderson Group was one of 17 organisations to take part across the province. Joanne Ballentine, of the Northern Ireland Hospice, said: “Volunteers are invaluable to our organisation and we wouldn’t be able to meet the needs of local people without their time and dedication. “We’re delighted that the team from the Henderson Group is using Environment Day 2013 to volunteer with us. We worked them hard, but laughter could be heard throughout the day, so everyone had a good time.” Hilary Hanberry, Business in the Community’s volunteering manager, explained: “Environment Day gives employees a unique opportunity to make a difference to the communities in which they live and work. Working in teams, volunteers contributed their skills, talent and experience to a ‘green’ cause and of course had a bit of fun along the way. “Environment Day specifically focuses on projects at sites of special scientific interest (protected by law) such as woodland, heath land, hedgerows and peat bogs – all of which are under threat from climate and lifestyle change. “This has a perfect fit for business in the community as we have a strong focus on helping businesses to reduce their environmental impacts and protect their natural biodiversity. “Getting out to see this in action makes a huge impact on the volunteers and makes a lasting, positive difference.” Could your business get a team together for a day or half a day and volunteer together in the local community?
