Primary pupils say Bon Appetit
The Extended Schools program was launched in March 2006 and provides additional funding for some schools in order to allow them to provide a range of services and activities either before or after the school day. The main aim of the program is to provide children with different experiences and to foster their health, wellbeing and social inclusion and effectively increase achievement.
The pupils, led by Geraldine Zimmermann and assisted by Maura O’Reilly, quickly proved to be Chefs in the making during the after-school cold cookery sessions. The children met once a week after school and enjoyed being actively involved in creating a dish, tidying up and most importantly the tasting of the creation.

Hide AdAt the conclusion of the six sessions, Chef Students and staff from Southern Regional College were invited into the school for a live cookery demonstration. Cookery demonstrations are a regular occurrence for the SRC School of Hospitality and Tourism but this was the first time they had brought their talents and expertise to a primary school.
Aspokesperson for the College said the hour long demonstration and student participation was certainly enjoyed by all and the knowledge and skills were very professionally delivered. A special thank you from the staff and children of St. Mary’s PS was given to Des Murphy, SRC, Annie Heatly and Sean Chambers (Chef Students) for making this possible.
