Members at last Thursday night’s monthly Public Sector Liaison Meeting of Council were asked to give comments regarding an appeal against an enforcement notice issued to Mr J. Mullholland. Councillor Clarke threw his support behind Mr Mullholland and his company, he said: “I propose that this council support this company. It has been one of our success stories in the town. It is a good company who has invested heavily in the site to meet regulations and I would support it. Alderman Hugh Nicholl said: “ I would second this, it’s a business that has been operating for 20 years on this site. An area of the site which is the low part of the yard has been used for the company to place heavy trailers on it. If the ground is not level then the weight can twist the chassis. “This is a firm that we should support, they started out with nothing and they now employ 30 people.” While Councillor Davy Tweed said that he supports the man’s business he said the council should always show caution when supporting such appeals. He said: "I would advise Council to be very careful on this issue. I support the business but we have to take into consideration the regulations in place." Chair Declan O'Loan agreed: "I support the man's business but I would agree with Councillor Tweed in that there are other occasions where we would support enforcement notices and the Planning Service in cases where rules are breached. “I propose to write a letter to planners explaining this."
