Delight for Des in Madison Cup
Des, playing off 16, double bogeyed the par three seventh to return 17 points for the outward half. A blank at the tenth could have been calamitous but Des kept his cool and dropped only two more shots coming in to add 21 points and get a total of 39 to win.
Two points behind came Nigel Dobbin (15). A scattering of double bogeys on the front nine gave Nigel a return of 16 points but a steady back nine played in five over gross added 21 points and kept Nigel one up on John Creighton, fresh from his winter league win, with his 36.
A couple of blanks, four and ten, threatened to derail John but a great birdie up the last hole boosted his score on the back nine to 21 and a final tally of 36 points.
