Newtoncunningham hold ABOD banner dedication service
The service was preceded by a parade of the village led by the Newtowncunningham True Blues Accordion Band and Manorcunningham Pipe Band. This was the first Apprentice Boys parade to take place in Newtowncunningham since the 1960’s. The service was conducted by Rev Ivan Dinsmore, Rector at Newtowncunningham Church of Ireland, and Rev Nigel Craig, Minister at Newtowncunningham Presbyterian Church.
Amongst the large congregation were brethern from the local Branch Clubs, Parent Clubs and visiting Brethern from all over the North West. The bannerette was unfurled by Brother Lexie Devenney, Past President and founder member. The Deputy Mayor of Londonderry, Maurice Devenney was in attendance and presented gifts to those who took part. Also in attendance were the Lieutenant Governor Brother Ronnie McCausland and Brother Johnny Acheson, Vice President No Surrender Club.

Hide AdThe brethern enjoyed tea and refreshment at the conclusion of the service, and then paraded back through the village to the assembly point at the Presbyterian Church car park. Afterwards Branch Club President, Brother Gary Middleton said: “On behalf of the Newtoncunninhgam Branch Club I would like to thank all those who attended this historic event and supported our Club.
“We hope that we can build on the success of tonight and we look forward to our bannerette being displayed on parade in the Maiden City in August.”
