‘Outrageously small’ amount spent on arts in Moyle
Those were the words used by Cllr Padraig McShane (Independent) regarding the £3,000 annually put aside by the Council for arts events which include things like the Hallowe’en Parade.
He said that budget would hardly last a week in some other council areas and he said the Council should look at increasing the arts budget from its current “pitful” amount.

Hide AdCouncil Vice-Chairperson, Cllr Robert McIlroy (DUP), believed they had “neglected” the arts and Cllr Donal Cunningham (SDLP) said Council officials certainly squeeze good value out of the current budget.
He said arts events should be supported as they bring people out and provide footfall for businesses.
As well as the £3,000 provided by the Council, the arts get other funding of £3,800 each year.
Cllr Joan Baird (Ulster Unionist) was pleased that one of the arts projects for 2014 will revolve around the Giro d’Italia cycle race.
