Primark is expecting staff numbers to rise by more than 100 as a result of the new extension.
The development will be one of the largest retail builds in the city since Victoria Square opened eight years ago.
A spokeswoman for Primark said: “Primark confirms work has begun on the extension of its Belfast store. The new extension will add 32,100 sq ft of retail space to the existing store, bringing the total retail space to 84,200 sq ft and creating 139 additional jobs. We look forward to offering our customers in the area amazing fashion at amazing prices in an improved and enjoyable shopping experience.”
