Hide AdDavid Hilditch, chairman of Carrick Rangers FC, spoke of his shock on being informed of the sad passing of his colleague in sport.
Mr Hilditch said: “Myself and Ernie had remained close friends after he moved on from the club and met up regularly at Carrickfergus Cricket Club, his other passion in sport.
“Ernie joined the board when we were really down to the bare bones and played a pivotal role along with Noel Patterson (former secretary) as we tried hard to first sustain the club and then move forward with many of the successful projects undertaken during almost a decade that we worked together.
“Ernie undertook many of the commercial activities during that time and I am sure that our sponsors who knew him will join with the board, management, players, match day team and supporters in extending our deepest sympathy to his dear wife Vilma and family circle at this difficult time.”
