Carniny Youth sides involved in some thrilling weekend encounters

All of the matches were closely-contested encounters, several of which were decided by the odd goal.

UNDER-9

Carniny Youth 4, Magherafelt Sky Blues 2: Carniny took the lead on 10 minuets when a superb passing move was finished off by Adam Wharry.

Three minutes later, more neat build-up play enabled Kyal Rainey show a clean pair of heels to the defence to make it 2-0.

With only a few moments to half time Magherafelt took a shot which seemed to shoot around a little and unfortunately slipped in to make it 2-1.

Straight from the kick-off, Grace Campbell in defence won a great tackle and passed the ball forward for Adam Wharry to race past 2 defenders and fire a shot from distance into the bottom corner restoring a 2 goal cushion.

Magherafelt’s pressure was rewarded when a shot was well saved by Evan Andrews, only for the rebound to fall to a Sky Blues player to score.

In the dying moments of the match as Sky Blues chased the draw, a long through ball saw Kyal race through and slip the shot into the corner.

UNDER-10

Carniny Youth 3, Bertie Peacock Youth Colts 4: It was the Colts who scored the opening goal ten minutes into the first half.

It was 17 minutes into the match before Carniny got their much deserved equaliser from a T Wylie shot. The scoreline changed however within 3 minutes when the Colts got the ball past C McCorriston in nets.

The second half started off with Carniny 2-1 down but 3 minutes later saw the Colts get their third goal. This though did not deter Carniny and a Bell corner 2 minutes later saw R Clarke get Carniny back onto the scoresheet.

Carniny hadseveral attempts at goal from various players with no success until with nine minutes to go saw R Clarke get his second goal from another Bell corner. Carniny were very unlucky to concede a further goal with five minutes left.

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 2, Castle Juniors 3: It was a new-look Carniny where the focus was on experimenting with the squad and they found themselves 2-0 down at half-time.

Introducing Sam Magee and Cameron Moody in midfield made a difference and Kennedy fired home from the edge of the area to give a glimmer of hope.

Then a quick throw in from Moody was flicked on by Greer to release Kennedy who out-ran the defence to slot home his second.

Carniny pushed for the winner but Castle caught them again when their striker fired home from a narrow angle.

NIFL YOUTH LEAGUE

Carniny Youth 2, Ards Youth 4: The deadlock wasn’t broken until just before the interval when Ards scored with a curling free kick.

Carniny conceded a penalty early in the second half but responded when Benji Agnew fired home a super free kick to reduce the arrears.

On 70 minutes Ards increased their lead to make it 3-1 and ten minutes later another needlessly conceded penalty kick saw the score change to 4-1.

Cormac Lemon pulled one back for Carniny but time was not on the Ballymena boys’ side.
