Desertmartin get back to winning ways in league

Carniny 0

Desertmartin 3

After last week home defeat against Ards FC, Desertmartin returned to domestic league duty on Saturday against Carniny at Ballymena.

Carniny, a young well organised side, were not to be treated lightly, so the Desert’ started cautiously. They soon found themselves ahead in the 15th minute when a long ball from Davy Nelson allowed Robin Patton to capitalise on a defensive error to volley home. A few minutes later Patton hit the crossbar with Lee Smyth failing to connect the rebound.

With a slender one goal advantage at the interval the Desert’ looked for a second, but had to be careful. However, with Richard Ferson and Steve Milligan in command at the heart of the defence saw off any danger.

In the 70th minute Desertmartin increased their lead when Lee Smyth headed home from the corner. Robin Patton decided he wasn’t finished yet and with a few minutes left rounded the keeper for his second goal of the afternoon to give the Desert’ a comfortable victory.

This Saturday Desertmartin are at home to league leaders Newtowne at 2pm.
