Wakehurst claim first victory of new campaign

After successive draws in their opening two League games, Wakehurst were hungry for three points to really get their season going, having targeted promotion from League 2 as an achievable goal, retaining last season’s squad that finished joint fourth and further strengthening it with more shrewd signings.

Time and again Wakehurst pushed forward with Lee McCaughern providing an accurate array of set pieces, passes and crossfield balls to his team-mates, as the home team completely dictated the opening 45 minutes but were thwarted by a wall of defenders and some robust tackling that earned the visitors four yellow cards before the break.
