Wilson becomes first open week winner at Foyle

OPEN week got underway at Foyle on Saturday with the J.K.C. Specialist Cars Stableford and the 125 plus competitors enjoyed favourable conditions with the Ballyarnett Course in immaculate condition.

Andrew Wilson (9) took full advantage of the good conditions to post a winning score of 40 points, becoming the first winner in the Foyle Golf Club 2010 Open Week.

Second was Dermott McGuinness (5) after he scored 39 points and Odhran McKinney (19) with 38 points was third. The gross prize went to Paul McGuigan after he scored 34 points.

The back nine was claimed by Ryan Kerr (20) after he scored 21 points, Andrew Hutchinson (21) won the visitors' prize after a break of tie finish 35 points.

Niall McGuinness (11) with 35 points won the juvenile section and Liam McCafferty was nearest the pin. The C.S.S. was 35 points.

The popular Friday Open Stableford competition at Foyle again attracted a good entry with City of Derry Michael McDaid (18) returning an excellent winning score of 46 points and in doing so will be playing off a much reduced handicap in future.

Second was Sean P. McEleney (23) after he scored 45 points and Greencastle's Liam McCourt (7) with 37 points claimed the visitor prize.

In the Foyle Golf Club Over 50's confined stableford Tony Walker came out the clear winner with a fine 43 points and in doing so relegated John Spence (8) who scored 40 points into second place for the second consequitive competition.
